Find out why managing
money is one of the most important life skills we can learn.
Find out why feeling comfortable about talking
about money and money decisions is fun.
Whether you have one dollar as a child, 50 dollars as a teen or
a couple of thousand dollars as an adult, you have to learn to manage
it. Our expenses have a bad habit of growing as our income grows.
Think back: How much did you earn and what were your expenses? As
your income or your allowance increased, didn’t your expenses
increase too? So many ‘wants’ suddenly became ‘needs’
you had to acquire with your newfound disposable income!
This book isn’t telling you to be cheap, stingy or miserly.
The idea is to know where you are spending before you spend. Don’t
spend wildly. Track your wealth.
You can have fun and be practical too. In other words, create balance
in your spending habits.

Our Purpose
The purpose of this book is to inspire you to handle your money
with maturity and integrity and to feel proud of your accomplishments.
If you’re like many other teens, you’ll be fighting
the pressures that your friends place on you to follow the latest
trends. You’ll be tempted to join them – and lots of
times you should! The goal here is not to isolate you from your
friends. What Carly and I want to do is help you learn to make choices
on your terms.
Carly and I work as a team to build for her future and because
we’ve found the formula to be such a success, we have designed
this book to provide guidance and support for other great teams,
like you and your parent or mentor! You’ll find lots of opportunities
to give each other insights and advice, which is exactly what a
great team is meant to do!
Money plays such a complicated role in our lives. There are so
many reasons people spend money – not just to pay the rent
and put food on the table. For some people, spending makes them
feel good about themselves. These people get so carried away, they
let spending rule their lives, putting them in debt and making everyone
around them unhappy.
This book helps you learn the real meaning of wealth – it
helps you understand the notion of being rich – as opposed
to merely having and spending money. We give you exercises and examples
that help you understand the difference and take control of the
ways you reward and respect yourself; taking control, ultimately,
of your future.
